The yellowdundi split from its ancestor. When some blind arbourundi ventured out of the Ferret Limestone Caves and into the Darwin High Grassland and Darwin Desert at night, they found a place that not only has plenty of food, but also few predators and other competing species. However, the yellowdundi had to adapt in order to live in this new habitat. It has done this by regaining its eyesight and pigment, which help the yellowdundi not only see better, but also blend in with the golden soil of the Darwin High Grassland. The yellowdundi also has regained its leg spikes that help it dig more efficiently. The yellowdundi also has evolved a backward toe on each foot, which helps it climb up arid ferines and reach for the berries. Due to the heat of the Darwin Desert, the yellowdundi not only kept its ancestor's long ears to hear better and to help it cool off, but it has also become crepuscular; this means that it is primarily active during dawn and dusk. Despite having the ability to climb, the yellowdundi still lives underground. Other than these adaptations, the yellowdundi is the same as its ancestor.
