The whisker gilltail split from its ancestor, the seashrub gilltail. It now feeds on the bottom of the coast. It sift through the sand eating any organic matter. Since it spends so much time at the bottom it is yellow in color to blend in with the sulfur rich sand. It can even tolerate the high amount of sulfur in its diet when it eats. However it gets no energy from it. Whisker gilltails lay their eggs in the sand which hides them more successful than just straight in the water. However they end up eating some as well as the seashrub gilltail's eggs. They have grown feelers on either side of their mouth. This helps them feel where they are eating so they will not eat something they would not want to eat.
