Ancestor:Descendants:

Warverines are an offshoot of the wargrats, but is still trapped within the Badger Limestone Caverns. They operate mainly as a large scavenger to feed upon large carcasses, thereby cleaning up the many bodies that may litter the location due to the predation by other species. However, they are also more adapted for hunting on their own, should they not find carcasses to feed upon.

They typically will hunt (when they hunt) limapins, which have before this point not experienced their own predation, and their new descendants, the setapin. These are hunted by stalking the shadows and when one of these two species happen to drop to the ground floor, the warverine can pounce upon it, piercing its body with its tusks, oftentimes aiming for their breathing holes to severely damage the creature and thereby easing the danger upon themselves. However they will also kill elderly or young warverines in a similar manner to the cannibalism exhibited by their ancestors. Generally only the old, sick, and young are chosen for predation in these cases because it, just as the limapins and setapins, lessens the likelihood of their saberteeth being broken during an attack; in the case of other warverines however it is because elders have weakened wood-bones that can shatter easier and sick are less likely to put up a fight, while young really can put up almost no fight at all against a full-grown adult.

However, because they eat their own old and sick, their lifespan has shortened, and they often will only live for up to 8 years. They are sexually mature at birth and will breed two to three times generally speaking in their lifetime. They are less likely to eat their own young but still leave their young to fend for themselves a week after birth to return to their own eating and mating. Like wargrats, they only congregate at mating season, where two males will duel to the death over a receptive female; those that survive these brutal battles are riddled with scars.
