The violet cadovermi split from its ancestor and has now formed a relationship with the uksor. "Domesticated", as one could describe it, by them, they now live in herds within specialized chambers of the uksor nests. At night they sleep their, perfectly safe from predators and protected by guards. Once day comes, they are herded out of the tunnels and allowed to feed in designated areas while warriors act as shepherds.
In return for protection, the violet cadovermi provide the uksors with a sap-like substance they secrete when stimulated that, while bitter-tasting to most of their predators, the uksors find delicious. They also produce the components that their ancestors used in their cocoons, and the uksors use this sand/cellulose "cement" in order to strengthen their tunnels and build protective "fortresses" that can be nearly a dozen feet in height in order to cover their hive entrances. Finally, once the violet cadovermi get too old, they are separated from the rest of the herd and used as a food source.
This relationship has proved to be beneficial to both parties, resulting in a massive increase in both uksors and violet cadovermis within Darwin. It has been so successful, in fact, that now dozens of wild herds exist. Uksors will now occasionally capture members of the herds in order to boost the health of their own.
Violet cadovermi are larger than their ancestors, and have a slightly thicker exoskeleton. Their jaws now contain five "teeth", the bottom two of which are partially mobile, allowing them to grasp food while eating it as well as fend off predators. They have also developed a more efficient respiratory system which allows them to gain more oxygen from the atmosphere and thus allows them to grow faster.
