The vent darkswarmer replaced its ancestor, the dark swarmer, in Rhodix Vents. It has grown to ten times its ancestor's size, due to living in the vents. Its eye became weaker because it seldom uses it outside the mating season. Instead, it uses its skin to feel the water for dangers. Its skin no longer has the ability to photosynthesise, and turned blue, which helps it avoid predators in the deeps. Its tentacles now flash only during the mating season, in order to attract mates. During the mating season, therefore, it is most vulnerable to predators.
