The swamp hunter split from the stumpworm sucker. It migrated to the Ichthy Swamp and is now the apex predator there. The swamp hunter's front claws became serrated so it can hold onto prey, and the back claws became two-digited to better walk on land. Inside the thigh, there is a fluid-filled sac that provides attachment points for leg muscles. Its proboscis is shaped like an arrow, and it now only has three fins. It can live both on land and water; when in water, the tail-grasper moves up and down and the hind legs are tucked in, while it tries to swim quickly in hope of catching an archer silverling. Otherwise, it can hunt down a twelve-winged worm like a mantis. The tail-grasper no longer serves a grasping purpose, but the swamp hunter is always erect when walking on land, as the tail is used for balance.
