The sunstalk genus group replaced its ancestors, the polar sunstalk, salty sunstalk, guizobu and koelnutho. It also replaced its close relative the bent fungibane. While they can be found in most Sagan 4 land biomes, they thrive in cold biomes such as polar or mountain types. Those that live in warmer biomes tend to be lighter colored to keep from overheating. Their leaves, spore chamber and stalks are used for photosynthesis.
They have a large bulb-like root that helps them stay alive during lean times. They can stay dormant even when covered in snow or sand, thanks to their bulb-like root. On the top they have an orange spore chamber which puffs out cylindrical spores. These spore clouds can sometimes be so huge that it can choke fauna nearby. Thus an orange haze is typically found around large colonies of sunstalks.
