The strangleroot has evolved in rocky interior of Vivus Island. The main body of the organism consists of a small, spherical center. Surrounding it, however, is where the true size of the organism comes into play. A massive system of sprawling roots spread over whatever surface they come across, slowly yet steadily breaking down the rock into soil over the course of hundreds of years. These root systems can be hundreds of meters across, and grow to such size because every few meters a new strangleroot core will sprout, from which even more roots will spread. Because of this, most colonies are essentially massive clones, and whenever two or more colonies meet, they will attempt to overgrown one another, typically with the larger one succeeding. Occasionally, however, as one colony wins and begins to assimilate the other into itself, genes are exchanged, and the colony will then produce spores which will lead to new colonies forming.

The strangleroot has proven so successful that they tend to make up 60% to 80% of the total floral biomass of wherever they inhabit.
