The stout riverbank palm split from its ancestor, the stout lamp-palm to inhabit the riversides and banks of the Ovi River and Ovi Lake. It has grown smaller than its ancestor. It also changed its colors to a slightly brighter color. Like its ancestor it uses bright pollen produced in a purple slime that is released when it reproduces. Unlike its ancestor it spreads its pollen using the water. It grows in the riverbank with some of its leaves growing down towards the water. In the reproduction season the pollen is released in massive quantities and spread through the water to other stout riverbank palms.
