The speartooth seaswimmer split from its ancestor and made its way to the ocean. In order to accommodate this change in habitat it has developed a flattened tail for swimming as well as coloration that helps it to blend in with the surrounding water. While most of its teeth have shrunken, one of its front teeth has continued to evolve into a spear-like weapon used for fighting amongst males. When hunting, a pair works together by "corral" potential prey and then each one taking a turn to feed. They mate for life.
Preferring to live close to shore and near the surface, they now only come on land in order to give birth. They will find an abandoned burrow near the shoreline and both mates will go inside. Within a week they will leave alongside with their dozens of inch-long offspring. Another reason for why they go on land is so that they can sleep due to the fact they lack the ability to sleep while in the water as they have not yet evolved the ability to do so. Should they fall asleep in the water, they will sink and drown.
