The soriparasite has now replaced the ancestral blood shrew. They even spread out into the Huggs Rainforest.
Its digestive system adapted over many generations to feed on the blood of its relatives, and not plents anymore. Also, its jaws adapted to be permanently open, and is a radial toothy orifice. When they sink their teeth into the skin of the host, their tongue, which evolved hooks, scrapes the skin and licks the blood. The saliva of the soriparasite is anesthetic, so that the host doesn't even notice that something is sucking their blood. If by any chance the host shrew does notice a soriparasite(s), they could cleanse them off by rubbing against a tree, and even eating them once they're off. Although other shrews are their favorite hosts, they can also suck blood out of other organisms with hemoglobin-based blood. It stays on the host until the host or itself dies. In case its host dies, the soriparasite must find a new one quickly.
Tiny hairs develop on their hind toes in order to stick on surfaces, and the claws in front help the soriparasite cling on. Also, they lost the webbing in between their limbs, as there was no use for it. Their eyesight has weakened slightly as they have a great sense of smell in order to find hosts, and they can sense the vibrations they produce as well thanks to their temporal. They are also much smaller than their ancestors.
Notes
- Giant Blue Anteater chose "soriparasite" instead of "parasitic shrew" because there were already enough redundant names. Also, sori means shrew.
