The soma pyamus has split fro its ancestor the segmented pyamus. It has moved to warmer waters where it has grown to twice its ancestor's size. Like their ancestor they have a segmented outer chitin shell with red fungi-like insides in between and inside. On the outer surface are little cilia which bring in food particles such as microbes or organic matter. These same hole also bring in air for respiration, expel waste and even allow their spores to be releases into the water. For the best chance of reproductive success they all release their spores in mid summer. This way even if other fauna eat their spores some will be able to survive.
