The slimemound split from its ancestor, the seraslime. It has now focused on photosynthesis and no longer consumes other organisms. They grow in large layered mounds that can grow up to a meter in height. As the colonies grow and die they harden into the base of the mound thus increasing its size one layer at a time. Each mound takes many generations and hundreds of years to grow to its full size. While they mostly live in the water, they can survive outside the water during low tide.
