The shieldberry split from their ancestor, the flora tend not to grow close together, except around Ovi Lake, where they live in thick clusters on the waters edge. They have a large shield partially made of wood to shade the flora underneath, the majority of the leaves grow on top of the shield, they can be inflated or deflated with water when needed. The shield is raised and lowered to aim the leaves towards the sun, it is raised during sun rise, or sunset, depending on which direction the flora is facing, and slowly lowers as the day progresses. This movement is performed by inflating a large bladder under the shield with water, and a soft hinge at the shields base. They sense where the Sagan sun is positioned by three curls at the top end of their shields. Like their ancestor, their gliding berries are soft and cup shaped.
