The scaled diveskunik is a hybird of the diveskunik and polar diveskunik. It replaced both its ancestors. The hybrid occurred when spawning in the same pools of water. Their reproduction is more or less the same as their ancestor where they will spawn their offspring into pools of water. This can be in puddles or even in cryobowls. Their reproductive organs are in their mouth like land plents and they will spawn their eggs or sperm into the puddles. Males will fight over the right to spawn in the same puddle as a female.
Unlike other "skuniks" their entire body is covered in cellulose scales. These not only help it keep from drying out but also help it retain its shape. It works like an exoskeleton and is ridged enough to protect them like a shell. The scales were made from the fatty lumps its ancestors had however they have now hardened. The scales are also photosynthetic and help give them a boost of energy when the sun is up. However photosynthesis alone is not enough to sustain them and they must eat.
Their 6 limbs also have cellulose rings that help support its legs. These have many joints so they can still walk despite the ridged cellulose. On the bottom are gripping pads which help it stop from sliding on the ice and snow. These also spread out its weight over the 6 limbs so they do not sink as easily in the snow.
They have inherited an ancient gene from their shovelhead ancestors which gives them three eyes instead of one. This was a major advantage compared to the other "skuniks" since now they have depth perception. This is one of the major factors that allowed them to replaced their ancestors.
With no more cellulase producing flora around it lost that enzyme the diveskunik use to have. However it has retained its anti-freeze ability which keeps it from freezing in cold weather. They are also cold blooded so they do not need to eat very often. When they do they will eat small purple or glass flora. Not having to eat as often comes in very handy when food can be scare on a glacier or tundra. And when they do find food they will take advantage of it.
Its lungs have improved and it breathes through its mouth. Since they have no nostrils they must eat food or spawn quickly since they cannot breathe when doing so. They will typically eat their food whole and not chew their food. They have a gizzard organ and will eat stones to help grind up their food. Unlike plents, they defecate out an anus located at their rear. This is much like the digestive tract of the carpozoa lineage.
