The rust kelp split from rust seaweed. Like its ancestor it lives off the coast if the iron rich region of Ittiz. And can metabolizes iron oxide from the rusty red soil it lives in. This gives it its rusty color. However it still photosynthesizes with its purple pigment, which is hidden by the red rust. It is in most every way the same as its ancestor except it has grown much larger to be able to live in deeper waters of the coast.
