The reflecor split from it's ancestor within the glaalgae genus group and grew to twice the size. The most notable differences between them and other glass flora are that the outer shell is thin and is not compartmentalized into lenses and presence of a thick reflective layer of chitin around the nutritive core. This layer not only acts as armor protecting the core but also reflects most of the light that manages to pas through the photosynthetic layer. This sends the light back through giving a second for it to be absorbed by the photosynthetic cells. This high efficiency system allows the reflecor to thrive even during the long winter period in the polar regions.
