The rapidbane replaced its ancestor, the chitinbane. With vandriswoop injectohex neutralizing its defensive sap, it needed to find a way to survive, thus those that grew the fastest had the best chance of surviving. They now are twice as big and regrow twice as fast. It no longer needed to grow the sap-filled bubbles, since its sap doesn't work anymore. However it could still fight back against the vandriswoop injectohex. It now has a stronger immune system which allows for fewer infections to the sugar-filled roots. They can store up energy and water when times are hard. These sugary bulbs can be tasty for herbivores as well. As long as there are some cells left it can regrow into a full plant again.
