The rainforest rockworm split from the rock worm. The rainforest rockworm has evolved to be bigger, as well as getting armor plating on all of its segments besides its head, increasing its protection against predators. It has developed the habit of whacking tangle stalks repeatedly until pieces of them fall down for it to eat. As you can see in the picture, the larvae is quite a bit smaller than the parent. The larval stage rainforest rockworm lives almost exclusively on the back of its parent. It will cling onto the back, the antlers, or any other protrusion it can grab on to. These larvae will slowly gain the armor and antlers of its parents, in short bursts of painful growing. These larvae will stay with the parent all their lives, the family groups moving around in small "herds."
