The rainforest gossalizard split from its ancestor. When some mandate gossalizards ventured out of the Mandate Limestone Caves to follow the spectresnatch, they had to evolve rather quickly to adapt to its environment. In order to do so, the rainforest gossalizard regained its eyesight and becoming nocturnal to avoid the sunlight; it also changed from having no pigment to having a black exoskeleton, which is used for blending in with the obsidibombs, and an orange underside that is used for display. The rainforest gossalizard has also become more slender, which allows it to slink around its environment and set up its long strands of webbing. The webs it produces are still simple and stretch from one obsidibomb to another. They keep themselves in touch with the web in order to feel the vibrations of anything that touches it. Once this occurs, they must quickly rush towards it because their webs are not quite strong. The rainforest gossalizard also has a longer snout that allows it to hold onto its prey.

Due to them being cold-blooded, rainforest gossalizards do not have to eat constantly and can wait for up to an entire month without food. While they grow, they shed off their old exoskeleton and its is replaced by a new one. However, this new exoskeleton is soft and it will hide in a burrow until it hardens.

During mating season, the females will crawl up to the obsidibombs and display their orange undersides as a way to declare that they are ready to mate. Then the male mates and is soon eaten by the female. This gives the female enough nourishment to produce young.
