The pufftower split from its ancestor, the tower saltpuff. It has moved inland where it doubled in size. Since there is much less salt it no longer needs a "salt pouch". It also now has a trunk under its leaves to help raise it above other flora. Without the salt they can live much longer than their ancestors. Like its ancestor its "puffy tower" is tall enough for the wind to spread its airborne spores.
