The plateosaur split off from the plated plentsnapper. Since there was lots of food and many predators, it had to evolve quickly. It became much bigger, so that fewer predators would dare to attack them. The plateosaur's armor has become much more durable since it's still preyed upon when it is a baby. Unlike its ancestor, it no longer lays frog-like eggs, instead it lays hard-shelled eggs since there aren't any pools big enough for them.
One noticeable change it went through was that the plateosaur has switched to being completely vegetarian. In order to reach for tall plants and the leaves of weeplents, it has grown a significantly longer neck. Its top eyes have become eye-stalks and the third set of eyes stick to the side. This helps them look out for food and predators.
