Ancestor:Descendants:

The pioneer colonialball replaced its ancestor, the colonialball. It has spread across the surface of the Sagan 4's oceans and coastlines. Its major success lies in its roots which allow for the growth of the nitrogen fixing microbe called the nixus. It has developed a symbiotic relationship with the nixus by creating nodules for them to grow in and in return the nixus produces a nitrogen compound that helps the pioneer colonialball grow. When the pioneer colonialball dies the fixed nitrogen is released and it sinks down into the depths of the ocean to fertilize the seabed. In addition as the pioneer colonialball not only spreads nixus to new biomes but nitritus, nitratus and denitritus, thus completing the nitrogen cycle in barren ocean biomes. In turn it has also spread the nitritus, nitratus and denitritus into deeper ocean zones due to it sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Those biomes include not only the zones, slopes and floors of Jujubee and LadyM but the vents and cold seeps that exist down there too.
