The piloluminuseven replaced its ancestor. Unlike its ancestor, the piloluminuseven anchors itself to the fine leaf hairs of the piloroot. The flagella twist themselves around the hairs to anchor itself. However, if the area becomes shaded, they will disconnect and swim to the next lighted hair. This causes an interesting visual effect of the leaves of the piloroot. When one blocks the light, the leaf slowly goes from a mottled purple-green color to being pure purple.
Living Relatives (click to show/hide)
These are randomly selected, and organized from lowest to highest shared taxon. (This may correspond to similarity more than actual relation)
None found. Note that this does not necessarily mean it has no living relatives at all, but that, assuming all taxonomy is filled in, its entire class is extinct; any relatives it does have likely do not resemble it.
