These organisms have evolved so that their 6 arms are evenly spaced around the cell. The points of these arms form an octahedron, giving it its name. This makes it harder for larger predators like goliathpseudopodia to eat it. It has a higher concentration of purple photosynthetic material in the arms then in the center of the cell. It reproduces by mitosis.
