The ocean tristage split from its ancestor, the tristage trisphourus. When the Yokto River got covered in the glacier, the trisphouruses managed to stay alive by breeding in small pools of water in Drake Temperate Rainforest and later, cryobowls. Some, however, found Slarti River. The river population split off from the land population, and were so successful they spread outward into Slarti Salt Lake, and eventually Jujubee Ocean. In their first stage, they are free swimming and swim around and consume smaller cells. Once they reach a large enough size, the cell rapidly splits into its second stage, which floats on the surface of the water, filter feeding cells with its tentacles. It has evolved microscopic fibers on its tentacles, which help it filter-feed and sense the movement of water around it, which helps it locate its mate. In the third stage, it filter-feeds and gathers oxygen by pumping water like its ancestor, but now it also uses it as a jet, propelling it randomly through the water, which helps it move to fresh water and keeping it off the ground.
