The nomnom split from its ancestor, the snow trunksucking worm. It now specializes in eating the roots of woodenberry species. It has evolved a 6 jawed mouth that can easily gnaw through woody roots. In addition its acid saliva helps break down cellulose for easier digestion. It has many more segments than its ancestor so it can dig through the soil easier. Like their distant ancestor, the thawworm the tips of their jaws have a salty anti-freeze-like substance. This helps it dig through even frozen soil. They will lay their egg-like spores in the soil close to woodenberry species so their offspring can get right to eating when they hatch.
