The mini pukai replaced its ancestor the pukai. It lives much the same way as its ancestor. Its fins have disappeared and its back shell has atrophied. They have gray coloring to blend into their surroundings so predators cannot find them. They produce massive amounts of spores in order to ensure they survive.
