Bank Balgae |
The mavrophyte is an off-shoot of the bank balgae. It became more advanced, and developed a slightly thicker skin. On one end, double lobed leaves grow, while on the other, the drinking root that is left in the water. The mavrophyte became hollow, developing a primitive vascular system.
To reproduce, the filamentous hairs on the drinking roots release cylindrical spores. Once the spores find a suitable place to grow, it will slowly grow out of the water. As stated before, the drinking root stays in the water.
Living Relatives (click to show/hide)
These are randomly selected, and organized from lowest to highest shared taxon. (This may correspond to similarity more than actual relation)
None found. Note that this does not necessarily mean it has no living relatives at all, but that, assuming all taxonomy is filled in, its entire phylum is extinct; any relatives it does have likely do not resemble it.
