The masked-bandit hoofplent split from its digging ancestor and moved to the surface after its only food source, the supershroom, did so as well. With no predators it has grown to become a major herbivore in the forest. It lives the life of a loner, only meeting to mate. While the females take care of the young, who are born quite big for their mothers have big mouths from which they are born from, for about a month before leaving them alone one night and never returning. The young learn to walk in a few days and can eat on their own straight away from when they are born.
Their spade-claws evolved into hooves which allow them to roam the forest with greater ease. The front claws evolved into cloven hooves and the back ones are joint. Their photosynthesizing sails have grown slightly bigger and have readapted to become a major energy sources for them. They still sometimes enter the burrows their ancestors dig and steal supershrooms from them, and from the diggerundis. In the mating season they often bash each other for mating rights and therefore elderly masked-bandit hoofplents have very bumpy skulls.
