Ancestor:Descendants:

The marsh crystal has split from the Tethered River Crystal. After the food source in the rivers and marshes didn't quench this larger crystal's hunger, it changed it's method of digestion, which provided more energy than before. This new method was more useful than photosynthesis. Because of this it no longer needed to be very close to the surface of the water and lost it's floating action that it's roots provided. In addition to it's larger size, the difference from it's ancestor, is that there are shards around the roots to defend from any creature dwelling on the river basin that might want to hurt the crystal.
