Ancestor:Descendants:

The mandate emulsifly followed the limestone balls into the caves, thus splitting from its ancestor. In the caves it had no natural predators, so it grew. It has a more elongated and slim body than its ancestor; giving it the ability to squeeze through crevices in the rocks and find that limestone ball.

Entering the cave resulted in the fact that it's no longer able to photosynthesize. It has not lost its photosynthesis ability, but it is unable to do so in the darkness of the cave. This, in turn resulted in the "wings" shrinking to no more than a flapping skin that has no use. Though it has only shrunk by half, the mandate emulsifly has grown by half, so the wings look smaller than they really are.

The lack of light also meant its eyes grew smaller, and it depends more on the sense of touch to find its food. Its tongue not only grew longer, a fact that helps it to find food even better, but became more sensitive to different textures and tastes of soil.
