The lurking lyngbakr split from its ancestor the delving lyngbakr, going even deeper into the midnight zone. Filter-feeding no longer provided enough nutrition, so they began feeding on small fauna as well. On rare occasions, the lurking lyngbakr is even known to hunt the midnight filtersquid. This event is reminiscent of sperm whales and giant squid on Earth, but the lurking lyngbakr has little struggle once it catches up with a midnight filtersquid. when a pod (often of a dozen) of lurking lyngbakrs has at least one pregnant female, they all stay in the midnight zone and take shifts caring for the pregnant female(s) until the young are all born. After this, they go back to the twilight zone to feed. There is no set mating season, and the pods are spread throughout the Jujubee ocean, constantly on the move. Minimal bioluminescence is used for communication, and some faint coloration remains for the purpose of courtship in the twilight zone.
