Ancestor:Descendants:

The larvaback genus group replaced its ancestor, the oceanic false-larval sauceback. The group are neoteny versions of saucebacks. They live in both freshwater and saltwater and are all carnivorous. They typically eat miniswarmers and krillpedes since they are so abundant. They use their primitive fins to wriggle around. Their tusks are very strong and are used to catch and eat prey. It has small eardrums on the head and a leathery but flexible exoskeleton.

While they are completely aquatic they still must breathe air thought their snorkels. They typically sit at the surface of the water waiting for prey to pass under them. They are completely blind and must rely on their sensitive hairs, ears and taste to sense prey. Once detected they will latch onto prey with their clawed fins and bite them with their tusks.

They are an important part of the food chain keeping the larger zooplankton in check.
