The armored phlyer was left in dire straits with the loss of Coolsteph island. Their populations dropped to near extinction, yet miraculously a few populations managed to survive and adapt. The lari phlyer has adapted to life completely separate from land. They spend most of their adult life flying over the coast, searching for prey. Once spotted, they will dive down to as much as 50 m down to grab their prey. Their bodies and wings produce a waxy, hydrophobic coating that allows them to take off without being weighed down by water. They are excellent swimmers, able to tread water for hours and will even rest on the surface. They give birth to live young on the open water, which are capable of flight within a few hours. These young are easy prey in the meantime, so the lari phyler will hide among the flora while preparing. They are so successful that they have out competed the swaggersnapper in the Soma coast.
