Ancestor:Descendants:

The jumping shellpede split from its ancestor, the shellpede. Both co-exist on the bottom of the sea floor. It feeds on poor creature who get infected with malakommalis. It has developed an air bladder within the shell so it stay neutrally buoyant in the water. So rather than walking on the bottom it will hop like an astronaut on the lunar surface. It is immune to malakommalis and it covers most of its body

Their malakommalis shell is not only tough against predators, but those predators that do try to eat them get infected as well, thus providing the shellpede with a food source. They still cannot see, but can smell the malakommalis's scent and feel the signature vibration in the ground of a struggling creature infected with malakommalis.
