Hardened Flash Cell
The hardened flash cell split from its ancestor when some glacial flash cells moved off of the glaciar to the waters below. There, their population exploded thanks to more space and nutrients. These organisms had to adapt to a life in the frigid open waters. They have developed a cell wall, which protects them from being shaken to death by the currents and to keep excess salts out of themselves. Thanks to the adaptation for living in the dark caverns of the Allen Ice Caves inherited from it's ancestors, they are able to descend into deeper waters in search of nutrients. There they became a much needed food source for many creatures, like the flashing filtersquids, the oceanrorms, and may other filter feeders. They have taking up the niche of it's distant ancestor, the flash cell. They have even been re-incorporated into lightvesting filtersquid.
