Ancestor:Descendants:

The hammertoe replaced its ancestor, the hunched turtsnapper. It has specified even more to eating the crystalwalker crystal and crystalwalker. Rather than than just prying apart it from its crystal shell it now has evolved hammer-like toe nails which it can bash the crystals apart. It now mainly walks around on its front legs and tail while it lifts up it hammer-toed back legs. Its thumb is now a sickle claw in which it can use it can use to pry apart the shell like before or even bite it with its hard beak.

Its shell is even lighter and has lost its protective spikes. Its tripod run is actually quite fast despite its clumsy-looking gait. Its tympanic crests have also gotten bigger so that it can listen for predators better. Males' tympanic crests are colored red-orange to help attract mates. Those with the larger, brighter crests are chosen.

Like their ancestors, they lay their eggs on the outside of their shells. Each egg is sticky and will stay stuck there until it hatches. When it hatches the eggs fall off and the babies run off. They are solitary creatures who only meet when mating. They do not raise their young. They also will dig burrows in the ground or take over abandon tunnels from other burrowing fauna.
