Ancestor:Descendants:

The gut majurums genus group has split from their ancestors the simple majurum. They now reside in the guts of all iron fauna, extracting purified iron from the soil and iron organisms they eat. they create a ferric reductase enzyme which reduces the ferric Fe3+ to Fe2+. They then attach to the microvilli on the digestive systems linings, releasing the iron into the bloodstream. The microvili exchange nutrients for the iron, allowing the majurums to survive. When the host dies, They eat their way out of the body, decomposing them. They can be found in the soil, but are inactive until they are ingested.
