The ferrumworm has replaced its ancestor because of a new method of locomotion. They will magnetize pieces of non-ferrous metal (like cobalt and nickel) onto special groups of cells sticking out of its sides. Then they use these "metal legs" to walk much like a centipede. They also use their magnetizing ability to make iron attach to their back as metal armor, to protect them from krupedes' teeth. They now also have primitive nostrils for finding Iron by smell. They are visible now because of their increase in size, which made them too large for most filter feeders to eat.
