The feather teproutine split from its ancestor, the teproutine. It has specialized in consuming silica. Its is now immobile and sits there absorbing silica from its primitive roots. In addition it has feather-like flagellum which catch sandy dust in the air. When it gets too cold they asexually produce spores that can survive the winter. It dies soon after producing its spores. The silica helps it make a harder cell wall for both the adult and the spore.
