The false cleaner borvermid split from its ancestor. It has devolved the whiskers its ancestor had, not needing them with its new lifestyle. It still possesses the extendable and retractable eyestalks of its ancestor, but it does not use them often. It also has a new diet. It now feeds on the blood of tamjacks. It looks similar enough to the cleaner borvermid that it can live in tamjack ships without being harmed by the tamjack. By day, the false cleaner borvermid sleeps on the ship. But at night, It wakes up and drinks the blood of sleeping tamjacks. It does this by piercing the flesh with the sharp teeth on its jaws and then sucking up the blood that comes out of the wound. Its saliva contains compounds that prolong bleeding by preventing the blood from clotting and preventing the constriction of blood vessels near the wound, allowing it to suck up more blood. It does not take enough blood to harm the tamjack, allowing it to feed on the same tamjack multiple times.
