The ebony pump gilltrail replaced its ancestor, the pump gilltail. It lives much like its ancestor except it is now completely black to blend in with the bubble droopgea. Its "pump pouches" have become more efficient. It has also gained more body fat to help keep it warm in the cold polar waters. Its dark color also aids in keeping it warm. Its eyes have returned to the top of the head so they can not only see on either side but can use them for binocular vision. They still sexually reproduce and will lay their eggs on the tentacles of bubble droopgea.
