Earbacks are a lineage of Carpozoans descended from the earback distinguished by the presence of ears going down their backs, rather than being located on their heads like most species. They were among the more prominent lineages to possess strange hearing anatomy, but today they are represented only by a single species, the oviaudiator.

Breathing and Blood

Earbacks have red, iron-based blood and breathe air using lungs.

Locomotion

Earbacks are generally quadrupeds with erect postures and digitigrade feet.

Reproduction

Earbacks lay their eggs in water, similar to terran amphibians.

Senses

Earbacks, as their name suggests, have ears on their backs. There are four of these, which point backwards by default. The ears each have a neural spine at their core, and the flesh portion can rotate left or right to hear in different directions.

The original Earback had 6 eyes. However, later species became blind and eventually lost their eyes. The extant oviaudiator can only sense light and dark.
