The dusted tigmadar split from its ancestor. Males have a mane of longer fur on their necks and forelegs and one or two elongated pairs of spikes, which somewhat hinders their speed in exchange for greater reproductive success. The dusted tigmadar, much like its ancestor, is a cursorial social endurance hunter, which chases prey until it collapses from exhaustion or heatstroke. Unlike its ancestor, it can consume some vegetable matter, primarily fallen fruit, shrooms, and the interior of busted crystals, which can help fuel it during longer hunts especially in biomes where fewer large prey items are available. However, it is primarily a meat-eater. It can compete with the argusraptor complex through niche partitioning, focusing on prey that can outpace argusraptors in endurance when their ranges overlap, including many armored species which are simply inaccessible to argusraptors but easily worn out over long chases.
The dusted tigmadar is able to rotate its thagomizer, like its ancestor can, but it does so to aid in steering at higher speeds. This allows it to take sharper turns when chasing down more nimble prey. Its lean build allows it to fold its body double while running, much like a greyhound, increasing its stride length and allowing it to be airborne twice per stride at full speed.
A social creature, the dusted tigmadar prefers to live in groups. In biomes with plenty of food and cover, it lives and hunts in packs consisting of parents and their offspring. In sparser biomes where pack hunting is unsustainable, a social group can consist of many scattered females and their offspring, and a male with a territory spanning all of theirs. Adolescent males usually leave their group and may either live alone or form bachelor packs until they can find a mate. Dispersed males may either join an existing pack and mate with females of similar age, or form a new pack with a dispersed female. In sparser areas without packs, they may claim females from other males. Males with more luscious manes will typically be more successful at courting females in either social scenario.
While capable of breeding year-round, in the cooler parts of its range the dusted tigmadar will prefer to breed when it's cooler to maximize the number of warm months its offspring will have one they emerge from the pouch. Newborns are born directly into the pouch, bypassing the need for grasping forelimbs at birth. They remain in the pouch for the first 2 or 3 weeks of their life, usually emerging once they have fur and their eyes are open, though they will return to the pouch to nurse.
