Ancestor:Descendants:

The cunning lizardworm split from the cave lizardworm. It has left the caves in order to avoid competition with its ancestor. Unlike its ancestor, its toes have evolved more joints, which allow it to climb easier. It uses its claws to dig burrows to live in. Instead of depending on strength, it needs to be stealthy, so it has become slightly more intelligent and more slender than its ancestor. Its tail has even become prehensile, which allows it to crawl through the trees. Like its ancestor it has a lizard-like jaw but also two insect-like mandibles. It uses them to grab its food while it is gnawing it up.

An unusual adaptation it went through was that its shell plating will fall off when something bites it and it escapes "naked". When it sheds its armor, it immediately heads to a burrow or any shelter that will protect it from the sun. However, it is quite fast when in the heat of day. It is cold-blooded and must regulate its temperature by sunning and shading themselves.

It will eat anything it can easily fit into its mouth, from megacapeye eggs to carcasses. The cunning lizardworm will sometimes "team up" with the brutish lizardworm in order to get eggs or a fresh kill. The brutish lizardworm will fight the predator or parent, while the cunning lizardworm steals the carcass or eggs. Sometimes the brutish lizardworm will also kill the predator or parent and so they get the best of both. However, the cunning lizardworm tends to steal carcasses from the brutish lizardworm and the brutish lizardworm will sometimes kill it.
