Ancestor:Descendants:

The crescofons dimidius is the result of a mutation that caused only one cap to develop. However, this did not disadvantage it. In the water this did not work so well, but on land it did. It therefore split from its ancestor and moved to the beach. The balloon part works like before, but the fringe, which folds under when deflated, fulfills the function of the other cap. The reason for this to work better on land is that in the water the photosynthetic cap points downward when deflated, because it is heavier, suffocating it from lack of light.
