The colonus genus group has replaced their ancestor the iron colony and have radiated outward into many forms. The majority of colonuses have regained their abilities to absorb surrounding microbes for fuel. They have left the caves have adapted for a wide range of environments, and can survive in any but the most extreme conditions. Those that fully dependent on the micro fort organelles have remained in subterranean Dixon. One species has even adapted the organelles of carpozoa after engulfing cells from their waste. They can be found anywhere from glaciers with symbiotic chloroplasts, to the deep sea vents surviving on sulfur loving organisms.
