The colonial calmstrum split from its ancestor, the calmstrum, when a mutation allowed for the calmstrum to link some of it's tentacles together, temporarily. These connections ultimately gave rise to the colonial calmstrum, after millennia of linked calmstrum began to link up their biological processes. These colonies reproduce at the same time, and no longer use filter feeding as a form of nourishment. These calmstrum colonies can hold together for years if undisturbed, and with the number of calmstrum working together, it can now completely rely on photosynthesis. Calmstrum are immediately born into these colonies, and usually spend their entire, four week lifespan within them.
