The coastworm lancer replaced its ancestor and evolved a funnel shaped beak. The beak is now impossible to open but for a small opening at the end of the "lance", the coastworm lancer will jet itself into the crystals and simply suck out the meat inside. Because the coastworm lancer is able to spear deep into the crystals the poison they possess in the outer layers pose little threat. The lance also works as a defensive shield when the worm pierce into the crystals but also from predators such as the brute snark. As a second form of defence the coastworm lancer has evolved skin to blend with the ocean, white belly to look like the sky from beneath and dark blue back to blend with the deep ocean.
